Quanloop runs a regulated investment business, and we are hiring a Head of Communications to build our communications function from the ground up. The job is to make Quanloop credible to people who have never dealt with us and keep it so. The measure is what journalists, commentators, online communities and AI assistants say about us when we are not paying them.
You will own earned and shared media: press and media relations, spokespeople, organic social media and community, crisis communication and local PR agencies. You will write the strategy and the headcount plan for the function and hire the team. Until it is in place, you will write the press material and statements yourself. Every piece of material, ours or an agency’s, passes Compliance review.
Working arrangements
- Working model: office-first in Budapest
- Hiring basis: local hire for the Budapest office; you have the right to work in Hungary
- Relocation: not supported; you already live in Budapest or move there at your own expense
- Working language: English
- Reports to: Group Chief Growth Officer
- Works most closely with: the Heads of Marketing and Advertising, the Creative Factory, Business Intelligence and Compliance
- Travel: travel between our offices may be needed; how much depends on the role
- Team: none at the start; you hire it
What you will be responsible for
- Writing the communications strategy and the headcount plan, agreeing the timetable with the Group Chief Growth Officer, then hiring the team.
- Press and media relations across the markets we serve: journalists, commentators, press material, interview requests and media responses.
- Selecting and managing the local PR agencies we work with, and deciding with the Group Chief Growth Officer where we use them.
- Preparing our executives to speak on investor trust and credibility, and writing the commentary and opinion pieces behind it.
- Organic social media and community management: Quanloop’s own voice where investors talk about us.
- Crisis communication: preparing for it in advance and running it when it happens, under the CEO’s lead.
- Agreeing with Business Intelligence how trust is measured, and reporting against those measures.
- Drafting with Compliance review in mind, and keeping records of what was published, where and when.
What this role is not
- Not a Head of Marketing role. The website, blog, newsletters, CRM, client communication, partnerships and client events sit with Marketing.
- Not a brand role. Brand identity and guidelines sit with Marketing, within the narrative the Group Chief Growth Officer owns.
- Not an advertising role. Paid search, paid social media, display and remarketing sit with Advertising.
- Not a production role. The Creative Factory produces copy, graphics, video and translations; you brief it and review its work.
- Not the voice on company-defining matters. Company-defining statements and interviews stay with the CEO, who also leads crisis communication.
Your first three months
The probation period in Hungary is 3 months. Your first deliverable is the communications strategy and the headcount plan, agreed with the Group Chief Growth Officer. By the end of the probation period, the strategy and the plan are approved and the first local agencies are chosen. The trust measures are agreed with Business Intelligence, and the first hires are under way.
A typical week
- Agreeing the narrative and the priorities for the period with the Group Chief Growth Officer.
- Pitching a story to a journalist in one market and briefing a local agency in another.
- Drafting a media response and taking it through Compliance review.
- Reading what the communities say about Quanloop and what the AI assistants answer about our category.
- Going through the week’s coverage with Business Intelligence.
What we are looking for
- At least 8 years in communications or PR, including 3 or more leading a team.
- Experience in financial services, fintech, banking or asset management, and knowledge of what a regulated firm may say to retail investors.
- Built a communications function from scratch, including hiring and setting how the team works.
- Media relations, crisis communication and corporate PR under your own management, with coverage you can show.
- Experience briefing and managing PR agencies in more than one country.
- Press material and statements you wrote yourself and took through legal or regulatory review.
- Has run organic social media and online communities for a company.
- On site in Budapest as part of an office-first team.
It is a strong advantage if you also have:
- A second language used in a market where Quanloop has clients.
- Experience in a firm supervised by a financial regulator in the EU.
- Working relationships with financial and business journalists.
