Head of Marketing

Apply

As Head of Marketing, you’ll set campaign direction across our European markets, decide what runs and when, and hold the standard on everything the function produces before it reaches an audience.

You’ll build the function from the ground up. You’ll design the marketing function, hire into it, and establish ways of working in time for our December launch. After the launch, you will lead the team’s day-to-day operations. What it needs is a function owner who can plan a year, brief a creative team properly, and be accountable for what the market sees.

You’ll also lead our in-house creative team and work closely with other departments like, Risk and Compliance, and senior management.

Working Arrangements

  • Working model: office-first in Budapest
  • Hiring basis: local hire for the Budapest office
  • Working language: English
  • Reports to: Chief Growth Officer

Job responsibilities

  • Design the marketing function: scope, structure, roles, and how it works with the rest of the business.
  • Recruit and onboard the marketing and creative team, including a Creative Director, design, video and audio production, English and local-language copywriting, and social media.
  • Plan and deliver the launch marketing programme for December, across all markets in scope.
  • Own campaign strategy and messaging across every market we operate in, and lead marketing entry into the new European markets that follow.
  • Decide what runs, setting campaign objectives for the paid channel function to execute against.
  • Oversee the Creative Factory, our in-house production team serving the wider business, and give creative briefs that people can work from while holding the quality standard on what comes back.
  • Ensure nothing produced by the marketing team goes live without passing the sign-off process.
  • Build a campaign calendar with defined objectives per market, so output moves at a predictable rate rather than in bursts.
  • Manage the marketing budget within the ceiling agreed at executive level.
  • Work with Ads and BI on measurement, and use what comes back to adjust what runs next.
  • Balance acquisition and retention objectives across markets at different stages of maturity.

What success looks like in the first 6-12 months

  • A working campaign calendar exists, with clear objectives per market and a creative team producing against it predictably.
  • Marketing entry into at least the first of the new markets is underway or complete, on the schedule agreed with the business.
  • Measurable acquisition contribution in the priority markets, with the numbers understood well enough to explain what worked.

Key topics

  • Campaign strategy and messaging across multiple European markets
  • Creative team leadership and brief quality
  • Market entry and go-to-market planning
  • Consumer acquisition and retention
  • Marketing in a regulated environment, including approval and release discipline
  • Budget management and channel prioritisation
  • Working with paid media, BI and compliance stakeholders

Qualifications

  • Minimum eight years in marketing, including at least three leading a team.
  • Consumer marketing experience. B2B-only backgrounds are unlikely to fit.
  • You have built something from nothing: a function, a market entry, a campaign programme that did not exist before you arrived. Expect to be asked about it in detail.
  • Direct accountability for a creative team’s output, whether in-house or agency-side. Both count.
  • Marketing in a regulated environment is mandatory. Financial services, insurance, healthcare or pharmaceutical all qualify: any sector where external communications go through approval before publication.
  • Fintech or scale-up experience is a strong advantage.
  • Clear communication in English, in writing and in meetings. A second European language is a bonus, though English is the working language here.
  • Office-first mindset and ability to work on-site in Budapest. We do not offer relocation support.

Other skills

  • Decisive on what runs and what doesn’t, with reasoning you can explain.
  • Able to give a designer or copywriter a brief that produces usable work first time.
  • Comfortable saying no to creative work that isn’t good enough, without losing the team.
  • Able to work at pace across several markets without losing track of any of them.
